DataMeasurement 3

Itis true that understanding the measurement levels enables theresearcher to decide the one, which will produce better outcomes. This means that one has to know what the four levels measure beforemaking a choice. In essence, the type that will yield better resultsdepends on the kind of analysis performed on the variables. This isgiven the fact that a measurement level assists a researcher indetermining the appropriate statistical test for a particular study. Thus, the choice that will produce better outcomes among the fourcannot be generalized rather, it must rely on the study variables. Therefore, by understanding the measurement level means knowing whateach level measures. For instance, ordinal is best suited for data, which can be ranked and hence will yield better outcomes than theother three measures in such a case. On the other hand, nominal isemployed in classifying data (Babbie, 2016). The interval levelclassifies and orders the measurement. Lastly, the ratio levelensures the presence of a meaningful and absolute zero. When nominaland interval levels are compared, the interval level will yieldbetter outcomes because it not only classifies data but also ordersthe measurement. Nominal classifies data only, and this makes ratioand interval preferable as they are more exact. Generally speaking,it is better to use a higher frequency level (interval and ratio)instead of a lower one like nominal or ordinal.

Otherstudy elements such as data to be collected and hypothesis play asignificant role in the choice of measurement level as well. This isbecause hypothesis tests the link between study variables. Aspreviously noted, the selection of level depends on the studyvariables. Furthermore, the variables determine the kind of data tobe collected. Therefore, to achieve the best outcome, the researchermust choose the measurement level that suits the variables at hand. This is because it will lead to the collection of the correct data, which will help in answering the research questions or hypothesisprecisely. In so doing, the study outcomes will be valid andreliable, and hence, can be termed the best.
