Audio:Neil Armstrong Walks on the Moon

Listening is an important part of the process of public speaking.Listening is far much different from hearing. While hearing happensphysiologically, listening is an art that must be developed becauseit is involuntary. An ethical listener must be able to interpretshared material and analyzes the content as well as the speaker`seffectiveness. While listening to the clip, ‘Neil Armstrong visitsthe moon,` I tried to display respect for the speaker. This occurredwhen I prepared to listen. Additionally, I listened using my wholebody. One way I prepared myself to listen is by avoidingdistractions. Problems that may arise while listening to the clipinclude pre-judging the speaker, making mental counterarguments tothe claims of the speaker as well as stereotyping the speaker. Toshow my activeness, I sat in the correct posture to receive theinformation and make sense of a message.

MyExpectations of the Speaker and Subject

Itseems that the speaker communicated directly with Neil Armstrongwhile he landed on the moon. Unfortunately, some people believe thatmoon landing was faked. Therefore, my expectation on the subject isto prove beyond no doubt that the autonomist visited the moon. Inthe voice, Neil Armstrong is heard saying that ‘one small step fora man, one giant leap for mankind` as soon as he makes one step ontothe moon. This is just to confirm that he had already stepped intothe moon. After listening to the audio, I am convinced that indeed,the moon landing was real. Other people who still doubt should listento the audio to the audio to be satisfied with Neil Armstrong visiton the moon.

MyPhysical and Mental Distractions

Whilelistening to the speech, there occurred both physical and mentaldistractors. Physical distractors came in the form of external noisein the physical environment. Both auditory and visual distractorstook place while the identifiable types of physical distractors. Forinstance, loud noise inhibited the listening process. Psychologicaldistractors that emerged included hunger, upset and the feeling ofphysically uncomfortable. Another mental distractor than existed as abarrier while listening to the audio was thinking about another topicthat was not related to the moon landing.

MyAbility to Focus on Content/Delivery

However,I was able to focus on the content being delivered despite thedistractors. I did this by observing and assessing the speakers`behavior and his use of tonal variation while speaking. I also paidattention to how he articulated the words to avoid interpretation ofany idea concerning moon landing. Even though I was distracted atsome point, I composed, concentrated and refocused again tocomprehend the speaker’s words.

MyAbility to Recall the Message after the Presentation

Oneapproach to recall the message after listening is through memorizingand internalizing the concepts gathered from the audio. Tointernalize these concepts, it is better to do further research tounderstand the facts and store them in long-term memory. With thisact, it is not easy to forget the important points from the speech. Also, I could take short notes while listening to the audio so that Ican refresh my mind when certain facts are not clear. The mostimportant step I took while listening was playing the audio severallyto understand every concept that was being presented.

PersonalStrengths and Weaknesses

Mypersonal strength on the subject was compassion. I was determined toknow more about the moon landing. Therefore, I became patient andcomposed myself to get every point. However, my weakness came aboutwhen I allowed myself to be distracted by petty things like hunger.
