Topic:Global Warming

GeneralPurpose:To inform the audience about global warming.

SpecificAim:To make the listeners aware of the causes, the effects and thesolutions for global warming.

  1. What is the biggest crisis that humanity faces in recent times? It is not terrorism, poverty or racism. It is global warming.

  2. The impact that human activities have had on our planet has increased exponentially in the last century.

  3. In this speech, I will expound on what is global warming, what causes the planet to warm, the effects that this process creates, and eventually I will propose recommendations for solving this problem.

  1. Body

  1. I. The phenomenon which is global warming happens when the average surface temperatures of the earth increase.

II.The rise in temperature can be only by a few degrees yet the impactis huge.

III.Research from the National Aeronautics Space Administration (NASA)has shown that the average global temperature has been increasing inthe last few decades (Wang et al., 2016).

  1. I. According to Peters et al. (2013), global warming is caused by altering the composition of the earth’s atmosphere.

II.Most of the human activities release a significant amount ofgreenhouse gases like carbon dioxide and methane into the atmosphere.

III.These gases trap excess heat from the sun that was reflected back tothe atmosphere by the earth’s surface. Hence, the planet begins towarm up (Peters et al., 2013).

  1. I. Global warming leads to climate change. The rise in temperature causes different regions to have severe weather patterns (Wang et al., 2016).

II.Areas such as the poles will have higher temperatures that make icecaps to start melting into the oceans. The excess water will causeflooding in the coastal regions.

III.Other bizarre weather phenomena will be heat waves, excess rainfalls, droughts, ferocious tornadoes, and powerful hurricanes (Wang et al.,2016).

  1. I. The best way of stopping such destruction to occur on our planet is through reduction of greenhouse gas emission (Peters et al., 2013).

II.People should use cleaner energy sources like solar and wind powerrather than gasoline and other fossil fuels (Peters et al., 2013).

III.Everyone should be aware of their impact in the release of carbondioxide to the atmosphere and work towards reducing it (Peters etal., 2013).

  1. Conclusion

  1. Carbon dioxide is the main greenhouse gas released in large quantities into our atmosphere.

  2. This gas causes our planet to warm up leading to adverse climate change.

  3. The best solution is to reduce the levels of greenhouse gases emitted due to our activities.
