Themeals on wheel organization recognize that old people are living withpoor nutrition status within the population. To understand thenutritional risk of the people, the meals on wheels organizationrequires the needy to submit an application for evaluation andassessment. It helps in coming up with more established methods fordetermining the nutritional risk. This program publicizes betterhealth among the home-based elderly portion of the population. Themeals on wheel plan present an improved nutrition and giving reliefto individuals in their homes and hence reducing the chances ofinstitutionalization. The program also provides interactions withhomebound people who isolated(Blocker, 2015).
Allcitizens above 60 years at all levels of income, living on their ownand incapable of preparing meals are qualified to be beneficiaries ofthis program. Disabled adults between 18 to 55 years of age are alsoeligible to be recipients of this program. Some specialist employedby the community nutritional programs throughout us who works withthe volunteers to help in performing the duties of this program.Midterm programs serve between 15 and 20 individuals. The cost ofassisting a single client is 1900$ per annum. At the moment, theprogram is serving about 150 people in a day throughout the country.The funding comes from the county government, federal state,participants support and restricted donations. Delivery drivers areneeded wherever volunteers do not make it.Thebeneficiaries get a hot meal at midday between Mondays and Fridays.
Themajorityof volunteers in this program are the olderadults.Laterin the years,some of these volunteers will be the ones receiving the meal due totheir conditions. Sydney, one of the food service coordinator,mentioned that the beneficiaries are mostly the olderadultsover 60 years of age. The high number of oldervolunteers is due to the anticipation that someday they will berecipientsof the same program. Sharing with the old is one of the bestexperiences for the volunteers due to their vast knowledge andexperiences acquired while interacting with the old members of thesociety(Cherna, 2014).The young people should involve themselves with this kind of programstolearn more from their life journeys. The beneficiaries of thisprogram have varied opinions (Lieberman,2013).
Differentbeneficiaries have varying perspectives on the meaning of service tothem, Paulandhis wife who are some of the recipientshave health issues, they are unable to prepare meals and the programis the only way they get the balanced diet by donating 180 bucks amonth, which is very affordable. From the interviews conducted, eachbeneficiary is very appreciative of the services offered through thisprogram(Hewitt, 2015).Meals on Wheelapplications are strictly meantto serve the homebound people due to illness and disability and alsothose who have no caregiversto assist them in shopping and food preparation.
Itis evident that the meals on wheel programleavea feeling of attentionto each of the touched lives (Houston,2014).Each person has his instructions about their personal need andsituation. In the majority of the cases, the institution is helpingin taking care of individual’s without the involvement of thefamily members, and even in the eventof family member involvement, the meals on wheel still plays a vitalrole(Thomas, 2013).Sydney’s experience with the meals on wheel nonprofit organizationhas helped him realize how pertinent this program is to the lives ofmany people.
Malnutritionin emerging countries mainlyresults from low food. play the role of eliminatingstarvation among the seniors. They need to empower the neighborhoodsto give the extra meals to the old individuals who are at risk. Partof this campaign needs to have donors to provide the resources(King, 2014).The next mobilization will be to encourage the existing members ofmeals on wheels to give more dishes. The final crusade will be tohelp members maintain and repair equipment necessary for providingmeals. Fromthe survey the impacts of the meal on wheel program are evident.Danny and Charlene feelno longer have issues with the getting quality meals despite theirold age and being home-based, they have goodpeopleto take care of them(Wagner, 2015).Every member of the society deserves a better life,and therefore the program should be supported by everyone with theability to do so.
Everyperson should strive towards impacting the lives of fellow humanbeings. The meal on the wheelhas indeedembraced this idea. The organization provides body encouragement anda smile to the olderadultsin addition to nutrition. Eugenia experience inspires one on the needto find and opportunity of giving back to the community. Consideringthat life is too short, bringing joy to the live of other peopleshould be a person individual way of living life to the fullest. Itisthe small deeds of eachthat creates an impactonthe life of other people.
