Havelstarts his article with findings from scientific studies that showchanges in temperature, as well as energy cycles on earth, willaffect all people. The use of scientific studies was aimed atinforming the audience that the presented claim is factual and isprone to happen if nothing is going to be done (Havel 2007). Equally,Havel claimed in the article that public research associate humanactivity with the changes in temperature plus energy cycles. Hestated this to show the contribution of human beings to their futureproblem.
Oneof the questions addressed by Havel’s article includes to whatextent humans contribute to the harm of the planet. Havel used anexample of a loan to assist people to understand what is taking placein the world. According to him, the planet earth gave humans a loanto use in whatever way they wish (Havel 2007). Since the time theloan was released, the human race has been increasing the value ofthe loan without giving it a second thought. Due to the increaseddebt, the world needs human race to start paying the loan. Havel usedthis example to clearly presents what is taking place on earth. Humanactivities on earth correlate with accumulation of debts as a resultof violating paying a loan. Just like the loan that matures withtime, the harm of the earth increases with human activities. Inrecommending humans to start paying their loans, Havel meant that itis high time for the human race to start protecting the earth throughminimizing activities that contribute to its depletion.
Inwriting his article, Havel also used an example of a pendulum todemonstrate irreversible changes in climate. When a pendulum ispulled to one side from its original, it swings and eventuallysettles at the original position (Havel 2007). Unlike the pendulumthat settles at its original position after displacement, any changein climate is not reversible. Havel used this example to createawareness in people about climate change. He wanted them tounderstand that there is nothing that can be done to reverse anyclimatic change that takes place as a result of their activities. Thedisadvantage of irreversible changes according to Havel includes athreat to life. In stating this, Havel aimed at informing the readersthat climate threats experienced on earth need an immediate solution.
Inthe article, Havel introduced a moral question “What is aresponsible action?” to paint on what is taking place today. Inresponding to this question, Havel noted that humans have beenpromoting the introduction of energy-saving technologies which heconsidered not to be a moral action (Havel 2007). According to him,the introduction of ecologically clean technologies, diversifyingresources as well as relying on many inventions is what humans needto embrace to protect the planet earth. The claim by Havel meant thatthe technologies used by humans are not climate friendly since theyare not aimed at protecting the environment. Equally, a person canlearn from Havel’s assertion that humans rely on a specificresource and invention in carrying out their activities. Use of aspecific resource and invention contributes significantly to theoccurrence of harmful climate change.
Inhis article, Havel cited the importance of education. According tohis claim, one branch of science is insignificant in addressingproblems associated with climate change. People need to be educatedon ecological in addition ethical issues so that they can share theresponsibility protecting the earth. Through education together withresearch, humans need to come up with possible ways of maintaininglife on earth. Similarly, humans need to behave responsibly to combatthe climate threat that is likely to destroy living organisms. Anydelay in addressing the problem according to Havel will seriouslyaffect all people.

He recommendshuman actions today since he understands human activities are thereason behind the devastating climate change experienced today. Useof energy-saving technologies, a specific resource, and oneinnovation contribute to the deterioration of the planet earth. Thesolutions to the climate threat include the creation of awareness inpeople through education. Education will make all people responsiblefor taking care of the planet earth.
